Bantham is a river break in South Devon that has good surf, but summer tends to be mostly flat. The offshore winds blow from the northeast. Groundswells tend to be mixed with windswells, and the ideal swell direction is southwest. Both left and right breaking waves can be found at the river. The best time is at low tide. If the surf is up, crowds will be present. Watch out for rips and crowds.
Clean conditions are when there is no wind or an offshore breeze
Waves that have become too choppy due to a strong wind
Flat days are when the waves are too small to surf.
